A seal for packs, strata or like material in colliery or like workings comprises a structure of fire-resistant panels 3 in front of the face of the pack strata or like material 1 and a set mass 4 of calcium sulphate plaster filling the space between the structure and the face. The mass which is pumped into place may be cellular or may contain lightweight or other aggregates.
