1,047,625. Draw benches. A. A. PINARD April 29, 1963 [Feb. 16, 1963], No. 16829/63 Heading B3P. An hydraulically operated draw bench comprises a draw carriage 10 to which are attached two open-ended hollow pistons 9. Each of the pistons works in a cylinder 8, the cylinders being mounted on the frame of the bench with their closed ends adjacent the draw plate. The ends of the cylinders which are attached to the draw carriage are connected by a fluid passage C. Hydraulic fluid is supplied to the cylinders 8 by a unit which includes a reservoir 2, a pump 1, a relief valve 3, a pressure gauge 4, a pressure intensifier M, an anti-surge device A, and a distributer valve 5 driven by reduction gearing 6 and 7. Fig. 4 (not shown) illustrates a drumtype back-bench for use with the bench and arranged to deliver three components 17 at a time to the drawing axes. The drum is supported on rollers 18 and is rotated through 180 degrees by the device shown in Fig. 7 (not shown) which comprises a double-acting hydraulic cylinder 36, the piston-rod 37 of which is connected by a rope 34 to a hook 33 on the drum. A gripper, Fig. 6 (not shown), is mounted on the draw-carriage opposite each die. Each gripper comprises three jaws 29 mounted on the piston-rod 28 of an hydraulic cylinder 24. Pressure fluid is admitted through a port 26 to move the piston 25 to the left (as seen in Fig. 6). The divergent arms of the grippers engage rollers 31 which cause the grippers to close on to the work to be drawn. The components to be drawn are moved from the back bench into the dies by the device illustrated in Fig. 8 (not shown). A piston 43 slides in a cylinder 42 and moves a carriage 48 along rails 49. Mounted on the carriage is a cylinder 44 containing a piston 45 which has a piston-rod 46. At the top of the piston-rod is a gripper 47 of Y-shape as shown at the right of Fig. 8. The grippers are raised to engage the components and then move the pointed ends 52 of the components through the dies 51 into a position in which they can be engaged by the grippers 29. At the end of the working stroke the draw carriage is hauled back to the starting position by ropes 12 connected to an electrically driven winch.
