In an electric lamp in which the pinch 3 reaches a temperature of over 300‹C. during operation, the portion of the supply conductor inside the pinch consists of a foil 4 of refractory metal to which is secured a platinum wire 7 extending partly inside the pinch and partly outside the lamp, the foil being at least 0À3 mm. thick. The foil 4 and the terminal wire 6 may be of molybdenum. The arrangement is applicable to lamps for infra-red emission comprising a tubular bulb 1 closely surrounding an incandescent member 2.
