Method of marking of objects and marking elements applying this process

Articles are marked by applying to a surface thereof a transfer comprising a layer of pigmented solubilized polyamide-see Specifications 591,382 and 928,347-on a temporary support, removing the latter then applying the marking information to the polyamide in situ. Part of the exposed surface of the material may have printed information on it such information having been applied during the manufacture of the transfer. A heat-sealable clear thermoplastic layer is applied to the marked solubilized polyamide through the application to the polyamide of a further transfer comprising such a layer mounted on a temporary support. In a modified arrangement the first mentioned transfer also comprises a clear layer which was applied to the pigmented solubilized polyamide after the latter had been applied to its temporary support. This clear layer contacts the article to be marked when the first transfer is applied. Specific examples of the invention are described in the Specification with reference to Figs. 1 to 9 of the drawings.
