Improvements in or relating to medicinal compositions having anti-tussive action

Antitussive compositions comprise at least one antitussive compound and at least one hydrolytic enzyme, at least said enzyme having an enteric coating. Specified antitussives are codeine, homocodeine, promethazine, noscapine and the amine oxide of diphenhydramine. Specified hydrolytic enzymes are proteases, e.g. papain, ficin, bromelin, trysin, chymotrypsin pancreatic enzymes, fungal enzymes, e.g. those obtained from Aspergillus Oryzae, esterases or lipases. The enteric coating may be made of gluten or certain natural or synthetic resins or lacquers, e.g. cellulose actetate phthalate.
