[Also in Divisions F1 and F2] A method of making a member, such as a turbine blade, subject in use to undesired vibrations comprises the steps of fitting an insert into a hollow slug, forging the resultant compound block to form a member comprising a sheath 12 and a core 15, and cooling the member to a temperature at which the core is separated from the sheath by a small space 19 which is filled with lubricant, any vibration of the member then being damped by friction resulting from relative movement between the sheath and the core. The core and the sheath may be made of the same material, or of materials having different coefficients of expansion.
