Apparatus for regulating the ingredients of brewers' and distillers' mashes

The supply of malt grist from a hopper 14 and of liquor through pipes 10 to a mashing machine 2 is regulated by a rotary valve 18, and a valve 12 and meter (not shown) respectively. The rotary valve is driven by a motor 26 through a variable speed gear box 28 either directly, or by a chain or belt. An agitator 38 in the hopper may be driven from the rotary valve. Cut-off slides 44 and 46 are fitted above and below the rotary valve. The mashing machine 2 which is driven by a motor 4, incorporates a thermometer 13 and a hatch or cover 15. After being mixed in the mashing machine, the malt grist and liquor are delivered through an outlet 48 in the machine to a mash tun. PICT:1064438/C6-C7/1
