Mesh skin grafts and method of and apparatus for preparing the same

Apparatus used to prepare donated skin for grafting by perforating the skin so that it may be expanded into a mesh, comprises a roller (18) having helical cutting blades, the roller being mounted in a frame adjacent a second roller (20) which may be rotated by turning a handle, a grooved platen (36) being provided on which the piece of skin can be passed between the rollers so that slits are cut into the skin by the cutting blades, the slits being separated by portions of skin which, having been pressed down into the grooves in the platen, remain uncut. During the cutting, the piece of skin is covered on the platen by a thin flexible and easily cut cover sheet (44) which helps maintain the skin sterile. The separation between the rollers (18, 20) may be adjusted.
