Method and means for handling fluid and semi-fluid farmyard manures

A storage and delivery installation for farm effluent comprises a relatively large aboveground tank 2, a relatively small pit 1 and power driven means such as an auger 3 for raising effluent from pit to tank and for delivering effluent from the tank. The pit may receive waste products which are fed daily to the tank, and from which tank the collected products may be delivered weekly to vehicles for application to fields &c. The auger is used for semi-liquid or slurry manure and has valved outlets 5, 6 supplying the tank and vehicles &c. respectively. In order to supply slurry from the tank a valve controlled outlet 4 therefrom supplies the pit, and the auger feeds the slurry to the outlet 6. The auger drive may be reversed whereby slurry is delivered from tank to pit thereby, before it is fed to the outlet 6. In order to pump liquid manure, a pump 8 has valved inlets 9, 10 from the pit and tank respectively, and valved outlets 11, 12 to the tank and delivery pipe respectively. The outlet 11 may supply two valved inlets 13 feeding oppositely directed pipes 14, 15 whereby by opening these valves sequentially the rotary swirls produced in the tank result in a mixing of the contents.
