[Also in Divisions E2 and F2] A leak-tight joint between a detachable component and a support member secured to a rigid wall comprises a semi-rigid sleeve or ring fastening the detachable component in the interior of the support member and a seal having at least two lips which are applied at the same time respectively against the support member and against the detachable component or the semi-rigid sleeve or ring. The support member, Figs. 1 and 3, is in the form of a bushing 3 secured by a nut 4 in an aperture in the wall 1 of a chamber containing radio-active objects, e.g. a " glove box." In Fig. 1, the detachable component is a P.V.C. glove or bellows 7 whose extremity 12 is moulded to provide a seal having a lip 13 engaging the internal surface 8 of the bushing 3 and two lips 14, 15 into contact with the bottom of an annular groove 11, of rectangular or dove-tail cross-section, formed in a polyethylene sleeve 8 which is retained in the bushing 3 by means of a bead 9 which snaps into an annular groove 10 when the glove and sleeve assembly is pushed into the bushing from the right. To replace the glove and sleeve assembly, the latter is displaced to the left, e.g. by a push-rod located in a channel 19 in the bushing, and a new assembly inserted in the bushing, the upper lip 13 of the seal in the displaced assembly being kept into contact with the bushing surface 18 until the new assembly is set in position. In Fig. 2, a transparent inspection window or a full shutter 20 is sealed to the bushing 3 by means of a three-lipped sealing ring 24 located in a groove 22 in the component 20 and is retained in the bushing by a continuous or split semi-rigid ring 23 in a channel 21 which may be formed by a collar 25 screwed on to the component 20 after the ring 23 has been fitted in position. Instead of a single lip 13, a number of lips may be provided on the outer peripheral surface of the seal 12 or 24.
