966,645. Producing metal sheets. NATIONAL STEEL CORPORATION. May 21, 1962 [June 5, 1961], No. 19432/62. Heading B3A. A method of producing thin gauge steel strip plated with a corrosion protective metal comprises cold reducing hot rolled strip to a weight of from 80 to 100 lbs. per base box, cleaning, annealing and further cold reducing the strip to a weight of from 40 to 60 1bs. per base box, and finally cleaning and plating the strip with the protective metal. A base box represents the area of 112 sheets of 14 inches by 20 inches. After cold rolling a hot rolled strip to between 40 and 60 1bs. per base box and cleaning and annealing, the strip may alternatively be temper rolled and then cleaned and electroplated. A ferrous metal strip having, for example, the composition 0.09% C, 0.33% Mn, 0.035% S, 0.012% K, 0.015% Sn and 0.12% Cu is coated with tin aluminium or zinc. The strip 3 after conventional cold rolling, cleaning and continuous or batch annealing is passed through a pickling tank 53, a scrubber 57 and through electroplating pans 63 containing soluble tin anodes. One side of the strip is plated along path 49 and the other along path 51, the strip finally passing a rinse tank 80 and a drip tank 83 before coiling or further rinsing. A cleaner is shown in Fig. 3 comprising a cleaning tank 25, a scrubber 29, a hot rinse tank 33 and a drier 35.
