A pattern chain for making the selection to produce the patterning on a warp knitting machine as described in Specification 849454, comprises a .series of regularly grooved transverse pins 10 connected at their ends by links, the pattern studs 9 being provided with two recesses 9d, 9e which engage in the grooves in two adjacent pins and are retained thereon by a, spring clip 13 which is secured in grooves 9g in the stud at opposite sides of the groove 9e and at the underside of the pin 10 when the stud is in position. The chain or chains are mounted on sprockets 2 which are regularly advanced from a drive shaft to present the studs to followers in the form of' rollers attached to levers operating cables actuating the mechanism for the yarn manipulation in the warp knitting machine.
