1,099,982. Curving. HITACHI ZOSEN KABUSHIKI KAISHA. Jan. 28, 1965 [Feb. 15, 1964; Feb. 22, 1964], No. 3784/65. Heading B3E. Roll apparatus for curving metal plate comprises an upper and a lower workpiece delivery roll, rotating in opposite directions and a rear bending roll raised or lowered in a direction at an angle to a line transversely through the longitudinal axes of the delivery rolls, the drive for the elevation or lowering of the bending roll being started by control means including a group of switches which are adjustable and successively actuated during delivery of a workpiece and a control means including switches being provided for stopping the elevating or lowering of the bending roll. A plate 3 to be curved is first held at its tip by rollers 1, 2, a front bending roller 6 is then raised by means 31, 32 driven from a motor 30 through a driving shaft 34, which shaft 34 also moves a cam member 38 between switches 37 and 36. The rise of the roller 6 is stopped by engagement of the switch 36 by the cam 38 which also starts rotation of rollers 1, 2 which is stopped when projection 40b attached to the plate 3 engages a switch 40a. The roller 6 is then lowered until stopped by actuation of switch 37. The rollers 1, 2 are then restarted and a clutch 25 engaged to drive a cam 23 along a shaft 24, the resultant actuation of the switch 17 causing a motor 9 to drive, through a stepless change-speed gear and shaft 11, means 7, 8 to raise the rear roller 5. The rise of the roller 5 is stopped by actuation of a switch 13 by a cam 15 moved along a threaded part 12 of the shaft 11. Actuation of a switch 19 by the cam 23 then reverses the motor 9 to lower the roller 5, actuation of the switch 14 stopping such descent. Actuation of a switch 18 causes the roller 5 to rise again, this rise being stopped by the switch 13 and actuation of the cam 20 causes the roller 5 to descend, its descent being stopped by the switch 14. The cam 23 then actuates a switch (not shown) to stop the rolls 1, 2 and the cam 23 is returned to its starting plane by disengaging the clutch 25 and engaging the clutch 26 to a drive source 28. In another embodiment, Fig. 4, means to control the movement of the bending roller 5 and drive of the rollers 1, 2 includes cams 43-46 on a shaft 42, driven through a stepless change-speed gear 69 from the drive to the roller 2, engaging switches 47-50, each adjustable by a hand operated bevel gear 51-54. Switches 63-66 at the ends of the roller 5 serve to stop the rise of the roll 5 and start rotation of the rolls 1, 2.
