A device for enlarging holes for piles comprises support 1, 3 movable relative to each other, and plates 2 pivoted to each other and to the supports, the arrangement being that movement of the supports towards each other causes the plates to move outwardly to press a local enlargement into the hole. One of the supports may be stationary and the other may be moved hydraulically. The device may be actuated at longitudinally spaced positions in the hole to form a series of enlargements.
