Preparations for the treatment of udders of dairy animals

Veterinary compositions for the treatment of mastitis comprise penicillin, or a salt thereof, and the calcium salt of 2, 4-disulpho-5-hydroxy-4, 4yF-bis-(diethylamino)-triphenyl carbinol as an indicator of the antibiotic when excreted with the milk. The penicillin salt may be procaine-penicillin. The compositions may contain other antibiotics e.g. streptomycin, dihydrostreptomycin, neomycin, bacitracin, and other antibacterial substances e.g. sulphonamides, or nitrofuran derivatives, and may be administered to cows, ewes, and goats by intramammary injection.
