An improved extrusion press with rotary arms for the die and for the pressure plate

An extrusion press has a first rotary arm 5, Fig. 1, carrying an extrusion die 7, and a second rotary arm 8 carrying a pressure plate 9, both arms being mounted on the press bolster 1 on a common axis parallel to the extrusion axis, the two arms being interconnectible for simultaneous rotation by a coupling device 10, Fig. 3, mounted on the arm 8 and arranged to engage either the die arm 5 or the bolster 1. Die arm 5 carries a pair of dies 7, 7SP1/SP and is mounted on a shaft 4 journalled in an hydraulic cylinder 6 which effects axial movement of the die arm 5 for admitting a severing tool between the die and pressure plate. Arm 5 is rotatable by an hydraulic motor (22), Fig. 2 (not shown), through gear quadrant (23) and pinion (21). Arm 8 carries a pair of pressure plates 9, 9SP1/SP and is rotatably mounted on a hollow sleeve 26 projecting from the bolster 1. A coupling bolt or bolts 10 mounted in the arm 8, is normally biased by a surrounding spring 11 into engagement with a bore 19 on the bolster 1. This enables independent rotation of the die arm To effect simultaneous rotation of both arms, the coupling bolt 10 is pressed into engagement with a bore 20 in the die arm 5 by one of a pair of control rods 12, 13 actuated by an hydraulic motor 15, Fig. 2 (not shown).
