A haymaking machine comprises an elongated horizontal shaft 31 mounted so as to extend generally longitudinally of the direction of travel, a rake-wheel 30 being journalled on the shaft, and a pair of arm-members pivoted on the shaft so as to extend oppositely laterially therefrom and each to provide an axle parallel to the shaft on which a further rake-wheel 30 isjournalled, the further rake-wheels overlapping that on the shaft on relatively opposite sides thereof, each arm-member including a pair of elongated rigid elements 50a, 50b, 60a, 60b each of which is integral with a bearing 34, 35 freely mounted on the shaft. In Fig. 1 the rakewheels are ground-driven and the shaft 31 is accordingly mounted oblique to the line of travel on a frame 10 carried by the draft-links 12 of a tractor 11. As shown, the three rake-wheels overlap so as to feed crop sequentially, for side-delivery, but the two arm-members may be swung over the shaft through 180 degrees (Fig. 3, not shown) so that the device operates as a tedder. The arm-members are supported adjustably by springs 74 (Fig. 2) from a superstructure 71 carried by the frame 10 and the frame 10 is supported at the rear by a single adjustable castor wheel 28. Each rake-wheel comprises six radiating spokes 80 each terminating in a bearing 81 in which are pivoted a pair of holders 83 for oppositely-extending arcuate rakesections 84, 85 with outwardly-extending tines 86, the rake-sections being free to fall downwardly as shown in Fig. 2, into ground-engagement but to fall back again into mutual circumferential alignment when out of ground-contact. In Fig. 4 the shaft 31 is power-driven and is directly aligned with the tractor power take-off 172, the supporting frame 110 being T-shaped. Chains 161 drive the axles of the outer rake-wheels 130. As in the previous construction the positions of the outer rake-wheels can be reversed, for tedding.
