1,131,894. Filing papers. HERBERT ZIPPEL, K.G. 18 Feb., 1966 [19 Feb., 1965; 9 July, 1965; 5 Aug., 1965], No. 7358/66. Heading B6E. A file binder 1 comprises covers 2, 3, a back strip 9 of plastics material having filing strips or prongs 10, 11 thereon to receive perforated documents, an edge-open recess 12 in the top of the strip 9 whereby the file can be suspended on a single suspension rail (15, Fig. 3), and pivotal suspension hooks &c. 17 on each end of the strip 9 whereby the file can be suspended at each end on two spaced carrier rails (18, Fig. 3). The covers 2, 3, and back (4) may be made by folding a sheet of cardboard or plastics material, and the back strip 9 is secured within the folds 5, 6 of the binder back by adhesive or welding. The filing strips &c. 10, 11 can be punched out of the back strip 9, or moulded integrally with the strip 9. The edge-open recess 12 has thicker opposed rail-engaging noses (13, 14, Fig. 3), and the back (4) of the binder is cut away in that region. Each suspension hook 17 is replaceable and of plastics material, and can be pivoted within the covers beneath the strip 9, the latter having notches (24, 25, 26, Fig. 3) to receive pegs &c. on the hook. Modified replaceable and pivotal suspension hooks (Figs. 4, 5 and 6) are described. Indicators and tabs.-The back strip 9 and the walls 5, 6 of the back of the binder are pierced or slotted (30, 32, Figs. 4, 5 and 6) to receive tongues (36) on the side limbs of transparent plastics members (31) which fit over the top edge of the binder, and index &c. strips (33) are pushed within the members (31). A modified member (31a, Figs. 7-9) for covering and holding index &c. strips (33), is of transparent plastics material with side clamping flanges (34, 35), one flange having tongues (36) to engage slots or piercings (30, 32) in the binder, and the top web (44), or the flanges, can have a planoconvex cross-section to provide an optical magnification means for the index strips. Slidable riders (45) of transparent plastics can act as further indicators, and are held removably by clutch means (46, 47) on the member (31a), and thin riders (48, 49) of coloured plastics can be pushed under the flange (34) to overlie the index strip (33). A composite member (31a, Fig. 10) for engaging the top edge of a binder to protect and hold index &c. strips is made in two coacting parts by extrusion from transparent plastics material. One part comprises a strip (51) including the upper web (44), which acts as an optical magnifier, and one flange (35), and the other part is a strip (56) which mates at (52-54) with the other strip, and includes the other flange (34). A cavity (57) between the strips receives the index &c. strip (33).
