摘要
Solutions of a methyl methacrylate homo- or copolymer in monomeric methyl methacrylate are cured at 0 DEG to 60 DEG C. with a curing system comprising (1) an organic peroxide, (2) an accelerator obtained by dissolving a vanadium compound in a liquid aliphatic mono- or di-ester of phosphoric or phosphorous acid or a liquid aliphatic or aromatic sulphonic acid and (3) an aliphatic aldehyde having 1-18 carbon atoms; all components of the curing system being soluble in the monomeric methyl methacrylate. Suitable peroxides (1) include t-butyl and cumene hydroperoxides; cyclohexanone, methyl ethyl ketone and benzoyl peroxides; t-butyl perhexoate and perbenzoate; and 2,2-bis-(t-butylperoxy) -butane. The accelerator (2) may be derived from an inorganic, organic or complex V compound, e.g. V2O5, VCl5 or V naphthenate, dissolved in an acid alkyl phosphate or phosphite, or in a toluene, xylene or other alkylated benzene sulphonic acid. Aldehydes (3) exemplified are butyraldehyde, isobutyraldehyde, heptanal, octanal and octadecadienal. Examples illustrate the preparation of polymethyl methacrylate and a methyl methacrylate/n-butyl methacrylate copolymer obtained in the form of layers or films.
