1,243,457. Anthraquinone dyestuffs. SANDOZ Ltd. 28 March, 1969 [8 April, 1968; 31 May, 1968; 30 Sept., 1968], No. 16476/69. Heading C4P. The invention comprises anthraquinone dyestuffs of the general formula wherein A, is a 1-amino-anthraquinonyl-4- radical optionally substituted in the 1-amino group, optionally substituted in the 2-position by a sulphonic acid group or an etherified hydroxy or thio group and substituted in the 6- and 7-positions by hydrogen, F, Cl, Br, or a sulphonic acid group. They are prepared by (1) reacting a l-amino-4-halogeno-anthraquinone with 3,5,5-trimethyl-cyclohexylamine and subsequently converting any 2-bromo-substituents to 2-S0 3 H by reaction with a watersoluble neutral sulphite or optionally sulphonating with sulphur trioxide or an agent yielding sulphur trioxide to form a 2-SO 3 H group. The amination' reaction takes place at 40-220‹ C. in aqueous or aqueous organic medium for watersoluble 'anthraquinone compounds and in an organic medium for water-insoluble anthraquinone compounds. When the anthraquinone starting material bears a 1-aralkylamino- or 1 -cyclohexylamino group this may be acylated prior to condensation with 3,5,5-trimethylcyclohexylamine and subsequently hydrolysed. They may be prepared by (2) reacting a 1- halogeno - 4 - (3,5,5 - trimethyl) - anilinoanthraquinone with an amine and then, if the amine contains no SO 3 H . group, sulphonating the product with sulphur trioxide or an agentyielding sulphur trioxide. They may be prepared by (3) reacting a l-amino-4-(3,5,5-trimethyl)-anilino anthraquinone with a halogeno aliphatic or aromatic compound or with benzyl alcohol, or alternatively with an xunsaturated aliphatic carboxylic acid or a halogenoacetic acid and then with an amine to form the acid amide in presence of an inorganic acid halide, the products then being reacted with sulphur trioxide or an agent yielding sulphur trioxide. They may be prepared by (4) reacting 1,4-dihydroxyanthraquinone 6- or 7-sulphonic acid with 1 mole of 3,5,5-trimethylcyclohexylamine and 1 mole of an amine or by aminating a l-halogeno-4-(3,5,5-trimethyl)- anilino - 6 - (or 7) anthraquinone sulphonic acid. They may be prepared by (5) reacting mole of an 1-amino-2-bromo or sulpho-4-halogenoanthraquinone with 1 mole of 3,5,5-trimethylcyclohexylainine and the product with 1 mole of an aliphatic or aromatic hydroxy or mercapto compound, the product being reacted with sulphur trioxide or an agent yielding sulphur trioxide. The dyestuffs are used to dye, pad or print wool, silk, hair, leather and synthetic polyamides and polyurethanes.
