A bituminous composition, particularly for use in securing bituminous layers to steel or concrete, is prepared by hot mixing 75-85% of bitumen with 25-15% of rubber powder, rubber crumbs, or latex. The composition finally containing undissolved, gelatinous rubber particles. In preparation, the material is heated for at least 5 hours, and preferably for 10-15 hours. The composition is applied as a thin layer preferably by flame spraying, or can be laid as a damp course.
