摘要
Alkali metal alcoholates of polyhydroxy polymers are prepared by reacting the polyhydroxy polymers with an addition compound of an alkali metal with a polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon under aprotic conditions. The polyhydroxy polymer may be cellulose or starch, or hydroxyl-containing derivatives thereof, e.g. carboxylic acid esters, alkyl ethers, carboxyalkyl ethers, cyanoalkyl ethers, hydroxyalkyl ethers and inorganic esters such as nitrocellulose, and synthetic polymers such as polyvinyl alcohol, partially hydrolysed polyvinyl esters, and acetals thereof. Many suitable polymeric materials are listed. Specified alkali metal compounds are the sodium, potassium and lithium compounds of naphthalene, anthracene, biphenyl, pyrene, naphthacene and crude coal tar materials. The reaction may be effected in the presence of solvents such as ether, tetrahydrofuran and dimethylsulphoxide. In examples: (1) polyvinyl alcohol is reacted with sodium, potassium and lithium naphthalenes, (2) cellulose (dry cotton) is reacted with sodium naphthalene, (3) soluble starch is reacted with sodium naphthalene, (4) cellulose acetate is reacted with sodium naphthalene, (5) nitrocellulose is reacted with sodium naphthalene, (6) cellulose acetate is reacted with mono and disodium anthracenes, sodium biphenyl and sodium naphthalene, (7) methyl cellulose is reacted with sodium naphthalene, (8) hydroxyethyl cellulose is reacted with sodium naphthalene, and (9) partially hydrolysed polyvinyl acetate is reacted with sodium naphthalene.
