The invention comprises arginine N-acyl-asparaginates and arginine N-acyl-glutamates and a process for their preparation comprising reacting arginine with an N-acyl-asparagine or an N-acyl-glutamine. N-Acyl-asparagines and N-acyl-glutamines are prepared by acylating asparagine or glutamine according to conventional methods. Pharmaceutical compositions, useful as cerebral and cardiac glutamics and aspartics, and as detoxifiers in hyperammoniaemia, comprise a compound of the invention and a pharmaceutical carrier.
