Spinneret assembly to be used in melt spinning

A melt spinneret assembly comprises a container body open at opposite ends and having an inward flange or stop around one end, a stack of elements within the container consisting of a spinning device, a filter and a cover member, the stack being engageable with the flange, a melt feed inlet, and a clamping member engageable with the container at its end remote from the flange. The clamping member is provided with clamping screws which engage with the stack to clamp it against the flange, and is movable clear of the adjacent end of the container. In one embodiment, (Fig. 1), a cylindrical container 1 provided with inward flange 2 around its lower rim contains spinneret plate 3, supporting plate 4, gauge pack 5 and cover member 8. Melt inlet 12 is provided in filling piece 11 attached to cover member 8. The clamping member, which presses the cover member on to seat 9 in the container wall, consists of plate 14, screwed into threaded upper portion 15 of the container, and at least three circumferential clamping screws 17 bearing on cover member 8. A central projection 16 on the clamping member bears on the centre of the cover member. Instead of a projection, a central screw may be provided. Springs 18, provided between the filling piece 11 and spring ring 7, ensure that the central projection 16 and the clamping screws 17 exert pressure on both the seat 9 and on the flange 2. In a further embodiment, the container is rectangular, and the clamping member engages with the container by sliding in grooves provided in fillets on opposite sides of the container. The clamping member may also be hinged to the container. The melt feed inlet, instead of entering the cover member by way of the container side wall, may also pass through both the cover member and the clamping member.
