[Also in Division G5] A device for holding, and piercing holes in, balls, e.g. of polystyrene required for assembling crystal structure models, comprises a table 1 with a circular scale 2 in the centre of which is a cup-shaped support 15. A locating pin 18 is adjustably clamped in a support 14 and serves to hold the ball in position, assisted by a spring- loaded member 17 with a concave inner surface. Rotatably mounted around the central cup is a sleeve 7 with a radially-extending housing 6 for a spring-loaded piercing rod 4. In operation, the ball is clamped in position and the rod 4 operated at selected points on the scale 2 to produce the necessary holes in the required positions.
