Drum holder, particularly for cable twisting machines, with a frame in which two journals rotating in bearings are mounted opposite each other and can be displaced together with their bearings along thier geometric axis, the journals being able to project inside the frame and means being provided fro such displacement comprising at least one handle and two transmission devices which can move relative to the frame connected to the handle and to the bearings, the special feature of the arrangement being that each transmission device has at least one projection cooperating with at least one groove in a part which surrounds a journal and can rotate about the geometric axis of the latter, a displacement of the transmission device causing a rotation of the part and as a result of this an axial displacement of the journal.
