METHOD OF PRODUCING MIXED TRICYCLOALKYLIDENE PEROXIDES AND MIXED DICYCLOALKYLIDENE PEROXIDES

1313372 Cycloalkylidine peroxides RESEARCH CORP 10 July 1970 [17 July 1969] 33651/70 Heading C2C The invention comprises a method of making cycloalkylidine tri- and di-peroxides of the general formula in which m and n are integers equal to or greater than 4, by reacting a 1,1SP1/SP-dihydroperoxydicycloalkyl peroxide of the general formula with a cyclic ketone of formula in a liquid carboxylic acid solvent with a strong organic acid or strong mineral acid catalyst, and also many of the di- and triperoxides per se. The process may also be used for the production of substituted tricycloalkylidene triperoxides substituted with hydroxy, carboxyl, hydroxyalkyl, carboxyalkyl, hydroxyaryl or carboxyaryl groups. Diperoxides of the above formula may also be obtained by contacting a triperoxide prepared as described above with a liquid organic carboxylic acid at 10-50‹ C. The tricycloalkylidine triperoxides may carry substituents, e.g. hydroxy, carboxy, hydroxyalkyl, carboxyalkyl, hydroxyaryl or carboxyaryl. Numerous examples are given including some in which the starting ketone is 4-methoxy cyclohexanone and cyclohexanone-1,4-dione giving rise to triperoxides substituted by a methoxy group and a dicyclo-alkylidene triperoxide radical respectively.
