A method for the selective line printing of copy sheets from a printing master and providing machine-readable recordings on the copy sheets, comprises the steps of making a machine-readable original 1 simultaneously with the making of the printing master 5, attaching the master to the printing cylinder 12 of a rotary duplicator and positioning the original 1 for co-operation with a machine-reading head 9, 9b. At least one line of the master is then printed on the copy sheet and the line or lines corresponding to that or those printed is read from the original by means of the reading head, the impulses arising therefrom being stored (18) prior to being fed to a generator 230 through which the printed copy sheet is passed and which emits corresponding magnetic impulses. These magnetic impulses are recorded on a magnetizable surface of the printed copy sheet whilst it is passing through the generator. A de-coding device 151 is placed between the storage device 18 and the generator 230. The original 1 and master sheet 5 are simultaneously produced on a typewriter 150 in magnetic and halographic ink, respectively.
