A method of propagating roses by grafting them, as a 'veneer', on to cuttings of an understock such as Indica Major is characterized in that the understock cuttings are unrooted, uncallused and completely de-eyed before grafting. The grafted cuttings are placed in an artifical medium for root formation, soaking in melting wax, &c., sealing the top cut and the graft cut 4 against infection. The grafting operation may be performed on a rotary table. Sterilized cuttings may be stored at 1‹C. before grafting.
