Cpds. (I) and salts thereof (inc. salts where R2=OH) R1 = alkylphenyl, nitrophenyl, halophenyl, hydroxyphenyl, carboxyphenyl, aminophenyl, alpha,alpha,alpha-trifluorotolyl, halo-alpha,alpha,alpha-trifluorotolyl, dihalotolyl. R2 = OH, alkoxy, amino, alkylamino, dialkylamino, dialkylaminoalkoxy. Diuretics and anti-inflammatory agents. A mixture of 200 mg. 4-chloronicotinic acid and 1.4 ml. alpha,alpha,alpha-trifluoro-m-toluidine (II) was heated at 150 deg.C. for 1 hr. and 200 deg.C. for 1 hr. Mixt. cooled, 40 ml. water added and mixt. distilled until all II removed. Filtration of distillation residue gave 265 mg. I (R2=OH, R1=3-CF3-phenyl) m.p. 262 deg.C.
