PURPOSE: To separate the subject compound useful as a polyimide, etc., efficiently and in high yield by converting a mixture containing m-derivative and p- derivative of a specific -nitrophenylalkylamine into a sulfate and crystallizing the p-derivative. ;CONSTITUTION: A mixture containing at least m-derivative and p-derivative of an -(nitrophenyl)alkylamine of the formula (R is H or 1-5C lower alkyl; nitro group is in m-position or p-position) is converted into a sulfate, the p- derivative is preferentially crystallized to separate the p-derivative from the m-derivative. The prepared -(m-nitrophenyl)alkylamine or -(p-nitrophenyl) alkylamine (sulfate) is catalytically reduced in particular to give an -(m- aminophenyl)alkylamine or an -(p-aminophenyl)alkylamine.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1994,JPO&Japio
