1,055,800. Yarn packages. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. May 6, 1964 [Sept. 17, 1963], No.36534/63. Heading B8M. [Also in Division D1] A traverse device for the high-speed winding of yarns consists of a primary traverse mechanism comprising two hollow rotating frusto-cones 1, 2 whose peripheral edges mesh to form the traversing yarn guide, and a secondary traverse mechanism comprising a carriage 6 which supports the cones and is arranged to reciprocate the cones along the package in at least two step in each direction. The cones are inclined to one another and are rotated by a flexible shaft 3. A plate 25, Fig. 2 (not shown), guides the yarn within the cones. The carriage is moved step by step by a cylinder 17 when one of the slots 12-14 joining grooves 11 in a rotating roller 15 is aligned with pin 10 on the carriage. When the end step is reached lever 19 or 20 actuates a valve 21 to reverse the double-acting cylinder 17.
