The topmost sheet in the stack is loosened from the rest by an air cushion formed underneath it, being lifted clear and conveyed away by suction cups, and the jets are mounted at the stack end face near the cups. The jets are caused to oscillate by vibrators, which can be in the form of small units mounted on the jets themselves. The jet mountings and supporting cross beam can act as vibrator supports, and the jets can be adjusted to suit stack height and asset width. The stack is preferably of lightweight material, e.g. textiles or paper.
