Shoe weft soles or artificial leathers having a grained surface from natural or synthetic fabrics bonded with polymeric materials. GG-. by preparing a mixture of fibrous material and finely divided bonding agents, casting the mixture containing no more than 1% of solids onto a wire mesh screen and modifying the micro-coagulation grade of the partially dehydrated mixture on the screen by treating it with an electrolyte such as aluminium sulphate which is allowed to be transformed into the state of milky opalescence only, dehydrating the mixture unilaterally and finally transferring the cast mixture into a press, having a water impermeable and a water permeable plate, whereby the latter is applied to the opposite side of the cast mixture so that the first surface has a finish which is devoid of the wire mesh screen marks.
