1,263,905. Lecithin complexes. FAR EASTERN DETAILERS. 1 July, 1969 [1 July, 1968], No. 31278/68. Heading C2P. A lecithin-C 2 factor complex is prepared by (a) extracting ground animal viscera with a hot mixture of methanol and chloroform followed by filtration and evaporation of the filtrate to dryness to obtain a crude total extract; (b) dissolving the crude total extract in a ternary, single-phase mixture of ethanol-chloroformwater, chromatographing the solution on a cellulose column, using the said ternary mixture as eluant, followed by evaporating the eluate to dryness to produce a lipid fraction; (c) dissolving the lipid fraction in diethyl ether, chromatographing the solution on a silicic acid column, eluting with diethyl ether to remove the lipids which do not contain phosphorus, followed by elution with methanol, and concentration to dryness in vacuo to produce a phospholipid fraction; and (d) isolating the phospho - amino-lipid fraction by dissolving in ethanol, chromatographing on an alumina column, eluting with ethanol and evaporating to dryness in vacuo at a low temperature. The lecithin factor complex may be lyophilized in three times its weight of water. Pharmaceutical compositions comprise a lecithin C 2 -factor complex as described above together with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier or coating.
