With equal spacings the fibre bundles may be used (as shown) as a C.R.T. face plate providing high resolution, as a flexible objective lens probe of a microscope Fig. 9 (not shown), as a multi-element lens plate (34) for photography Fig.16A (not shown) or image projection, Fig.16B (not shown); it is also possible for different parts of the bundle to have different diameters and different values of "N" and "a", Fig.17 (not shown), thereby giving different focal lengths and so enhancing the stereoscopic properties of the assembly. Differing spacings at the two ends may be achieved by careful positioning Figs.13, 14 (not shown) or by using fibres of conical longitudinal section (not illustrated).
