[Also in Division C3] The invention comprises sulphur dioxide addition products of formula in which Z is an N or R-C radical, each R is independently selected from hydrogen and C 1 -C 8 alkyl radicals, n is 1 when Z is the R-C radical and 1 or 2 when Z is the N radical. The addition products may be made by contacting a compound of formula with sulphur dioxide under substantially anhydrous conditions. Preferably the reaction is carried out in an anhydrous liquid medium in which the reactants are soluble but the product is not. Suitable liquid media are benzene, toluene, hexane and methylene chloride and mixtures thereof.
