During 1992, an extensive data collection effort, Project MOHAVE (Measurement of Haze and Visual Effects), was carried out with the goal of quantifying the haze impacts of emissions from the Mohave Power Project (MPP) at the Grand Canyon National Park. MPP is a 1580MW coal-fired powerplant located about 115km southwest of the western boundary of the Park. One of the uniques aspects of Project MOHAVE included the release and sampling of a unique perfluorocarbon tracer from the MPP stack over a 50-day period during the summer of 1992. The MPP-released tracer provided a useful opportunity to isolate a "unique signal" from the MPP plume for purposes of examining MPP's relationships to regional sulfur levels. This paper summarizes the results of a number of exploratory and statistical analyses of the Project MOHAVE sulfur and tracer data and addresses the following central question: Are downwind sulfur dioxide and particulate sulfur levels related to the presence of MPP as evidenced by the MPP tracer?
