In a particle accelerator of the betatron or synchrotron type in which the electron beam injected from an electron gun into the accelerating chamber passes through a varying electric field to change the angle of injection during the injection period, the beam direction is varied from a direction tangential to the equilibrium orbit up to the maximum diameter of the accelerating chamber in order to increase the radiation intensity of the accelerator.
