1,203,103. Purifying combustible gas. METALLGESELLSCHAFT A.G. 3 Oct., 1967 [14 Oct., 1966], No. 44926/67. Heading C5E. H 2 S and CO 2 are removed from fuel gas or synthesis gas by a process similar to that described in Specification 1,196,658. Scrubbing liquid containing CO 2 is divided into two main portions. The first traverses line 16, H 2 S absorber 4, flash tower 7, regenerating column 8, and heat exchangers 85, 94 for returning to the CO 2 absorber 5 cooled and completely regenerated; the second is cooled at 6 and partially regenerated in flash tower 9, optionally with CO 2 stripping at 93, for returning via 13 to a coarse scrubbing zone 51 of the absorber 5. Flashed-off gases containing H 2 and CO are returned via line 18 and compressor 42 to the gas input, and other flashed-off gases leave at 28 and 29. Ammonia evaporators 6, 54 are provided. Xylene may be used as scrubbing liquid.
