1,203,456. Optical apparatus. N.R.D ASLUND. Sept.25, 1967 [Sept.29, 1966], No.43418/67. Heading G2J. [Also in Division G1] In a device for scanning an optical image, e.g. for producing on the screen of an oscilloscope 32, Fig.5, an indication of the variation of light intensity of a spectral line along its length, light is reflected by fixed mirrors 14, 15, and movable mirrors 1, 2, so as to form the image at right angles to a slit 8. The mirrors 1, 2 are at right angles to one another and form an angle of 45 degrees with the plane 3 of the image, and on moving them in a plane parallel to plane 3, the line image is moved across slit 8 so that the intensity, as detected by a photo-cell 9, may be fed to the Y plates of a C.R.O. 32. The X-plates are fed with a voltage indicative of the movement of the mirrors 1, 2. The latter are mounted on one bar 17 of a parallelogram support 17, 18, 19, 20, which is given a sinusoidal rotation about torsion shafts 22, 23, by electromagnetic forces generated by coil 26 on the bar 18 and fixed magnets 28. The output from pick-up 27 is fed via a phase shifting network 31 to the X-plates of the C.R.O. 32. In a modification, Fig.3 (not shown) the mirrors (1, 2) are mounted on a swing formed by a single cross-bar (5) and a pair of parallel pivoted end supports (6, 7).
