[Also in Division C7] Fuel cell cathodes comprise a catalyst which is a stoichiometric ordered alloy of Cu with Au doped with a minor quantity of a material for improving the catalytic activity of the alloy. Stoichiometric alloys specified are Cu 3 Au, CuAu and Cu 3 Au 2 . The dopant may be a Group II A , II B , III A , III B , IV A or IV B element preferably Ga, A1 or In. An electrode is described comprising a coating of synthetic resin binder containing flakes of A1 doped Cu 3 Au on an apertured Ni-plate which may have been Au-plated. The catalyst flakes used preferably have their major surfaces in the 1,0,0 crystal plane. The electrodes can be used in alkaline H 2 O 2 fuel cells.
