An electrochemical capacitor electrode material, comprises a rutile-type titanium oxide compound containing an oxidizable and reducible metal. An electrochemical capacitor electrode material comprises a compound which is selected from titanium oxide, hydrated titanium oxide and its hydrided products and which contains an oxidizable and reducible metal element. Independent claims are also included for the following: (i) an electrochemical capacitor comprising the above electrode material; and (ii) processes for producing the above electrode material. Preferred Features: The oxidizable and reducible metal element is vanadium.
