CONTROL APPARATUS FOR ENSURING THE AUTOMATIC COMPLETION OF A PROGRAMME IN A MACHINE, PARTICULARLY A WASHING MACHINE

[Also in Division H1] A control apparatus for automatically ensuring the carrying out of a programme of a machine such as a washing machine comprises a programme disc 11, Fig.4 resiliently retained with respect to a hub 10 by a ring 14 and a spring 12. The hub 10 is mounted on a hollow shaft 9 having a groove engaging a slot 25 in a slidable plate 23, whereby the disc is retained closely adjacent to a supporting plate 1. Sliding within the shaft 9 is a rod 27 having a conical end 27SP1/SP. The depression of a knob 30 against the action of a spring 31 causes the conical end 27SP1/SP to engage a hole 28 in a portion 23SP1/SP of the plate 23 whereby the plate is slid, against the action of a spring 26, to release the shaft 9 from the slot 25. The shaft 9 is then raised by a spring 22 to lift the programme disc 11 away from the supporting plate 1. The programme disc 11, when raised is disengaged from a drive pinion 33, Fig.1 and is freely settable, by a knob 16 to a plurality of programme positions, indicated by grooves 39 which engage a spring-loaded pawl, not shown. The pinion 33 is frictionally coupled to a drive shaft 35 of a motor 34 through a spring 36. The motor is energized through a micro-switch 37, the supply circuit being closed when the sliding plate 23 engages the groove in the shaft 9. The programme disc has a plurality of arcuate slots through which pass sensor lugs of control levers 42 co-operating with microswitches 44. Each lug has an oblique running-up flank directed opposite to the direction of motion d of the programme disc and a drop-in flank perpendicular to the control lever.
