1,207,434. Inhibiting bi-metallic corrosion of Mg. MAGNESIUM ELEKTRON Ltd. March 25, 1969 [March 29, 1968], No. 15144/68. Heading C7E. Galvanic corrosion of Mg or Mg alloy components electrically connected to electro-chemically dissimilar metals, both the Mg and other metal being electrolytically connected by means of water but in the absence of externally impressed current, is inhibited by adding a soluble chromate to the water, in the absence of a fluoride. The electrical connection may arise from the juxtaposition of Mg and a metal such as Fe, Cu, brass, or solder, e.g. in an I.C. engine with a Mg cylinder block, and the chromate used is an alkali- or alkaline earth-metal chromate, used in amounts of 0À1- 20 wt per cent.
