A narrow track magnetic record/playback head of adequate mechanical strength is made by profiling one of a pair of ferrite blocks forming the head-core and building up the portions removed by the profiling, as well as joining the blocks together by glass or vitreous enamel. The block 1, Fig. 1, is multiply grooved with recesses 2 of rectangular section which are filled with a glass of m.p. 700 DEG C. and the block divided at 3 to provide blocks which are further profiled on the faces 1a to make 10 heads.
