A graphite brick comprises a mixture of granular (i.e. at least 0À075 mm. particle size) and pulverous (i.e. 0À075 mm. particle size) graphite, and comprises 30-70% by weight of the powder and from 70 to 30% by weight of the granular form, bonded with a carbonized pitch/tar binder. Preferred ranges of particle size are given and the green composition may include 15-26% by weight of binder when it is ready for shaping.
