In operation of the die set, the surfaces 62, 64 of the female member 50 are forced into contact with the surfaces 76, 78 of the male member 52, thus preventing sharp edges from being formed on the workpiece edges 92. In other embodiments, transverse apertures (108, Fig. 6) or inwardly extending deflectable levers (212, 214, Fig. 10) may be included in the female member. The male member may include tapered recesses for receiving the female member.
