1333677 Assembling structural elements C NASI 19 April 1971 [11 March 1970] 23659/71 Heading E1K Structural elements. of elongated form, are assembled by means of a device consisting of a base, in the form of a solid prism, and a number of fins disposed in inclined planes which extend into and intersect within the base 1, the base and fins being apertured for the reception of bolts or rivets to connect the base to one or more of the structural elements and the fins to other ones of the structural elements. In the embodiment of Fig. 2, the base 1 is of square form as seen in plan and has four inclined fins 3 secured to its top edges; e.g. by welding. Girders 9 are secured to the fins by bolts 10, and a bolt 8 secures the base to two beams 6, 7. In the embodiment of Fig. 3, fins 11 extend from the corners of the base 1, and the beams 12, 13 are of I section with parts of their flanges cut-away as shown. In another embodiment (Fig. 4, not shown), two trapezoidal fins (14) extend from two opposite edges of the base, each fin having two apertures to secure two girders to the fin. Further fins may be added to produce a pyramidal structure. In a further embodiment (Fig. 5, not shown), the base is rectangular as seen in plan and has a plurality of apertures (19) for fixing it in a selected position on one of a pair of crossed I section beams (23, 24) and fins (21, 27) extending at assorted angles from the two longer sides of the base.
