Locking mechanism for the fuel tank cap for use in the automobiles or the like vehicles comprising a rotatable set of plurality of leavers arranges in the form of outwardly disposed projections integrally formed at the base of a cylindrically shaped cup like cover, the aid cover being pivotally fixed on a key operated central hub fixed inside the said cap and the arrangement is such that the said cover is made to rotate inside the cap in the clockwise or anticlockwise direction by the operation of the key thereby bringing the set of the levers into their locking or unlocking position as desired.
